For my birthday, my friend Michael gave me a new DSLR camera: a Nikon D50. (Thank you, thank you, thank you, Michael!!!!) Though I got it a few weeks ago, I am still trying to get the hang of the camera (I wasn’t able to use it for a while because I didn’t have the right kind of memory card). Up until now I have only used my manual SLR, the camera on my phone, and my Canon point and shoot so I am so excited to add a new, nicer camera to my repertoire.
Anyway, here are a few test shots that I took.

Hopefully, having a better camera will help improve the quality of my blog.

I was doing research for my internship about African American’s in Philadelphia in 1860 - 1900, and overall, I discovered that people said some crazy stuff about African Americans in the past. My favorite was this gem:
“Doctors at the Hahneman Hospital told reporters that ‘anatomical research has shown that certain classes of the Ethiopian race have small poison sacs or cells under their gums which in certain circumstances eject poison.”
Wait, wait wait. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. Doctors in the past thought that black people were poisonous?!?!
Please, just let that settle in.
